Yard waste collection past what the city takes
The yard debris that falls outside the municipal rules.
Keep your Ottawa, Ontario yard clear without the back-breaking part. We take organic yard waste (branches, brush, bags of leaves, sod and soil) to local composting facilities so it is reused rather than buried.
The same strip beside the house, photographed from the same spot. Left is what had grown in against the siding. Right is after the crew pulled it out and cleared what was buried underneath.

The yard debris that falls outside the municipal rules.
Nothing to rake to the road and nothing to drag out.
Loose leaves, loose branches and a heap of plants, all fine here.
We say what the city takes for free, even if that loses us the job.
Organic material to a composting facility, nutrients back into soil.
We come when it suits you, not on your street schedule.
One clear-out after a storm, or a standing autumn run.
Labour, stairs, sorting, disposal and a broom-clean finish are in every price. The figure written at your door is the figure you pay.
Hauled from anywhere on the property. No lifting, no dragging to the curb, no sorting first.
Licensed, insured and equipped for the awkward end of the job. If someone has already turned you down, this is usually why.
Not sure yours is on the list? Send one photo and we will tell you straight away, at no charge.
Text photos to (343) 314-7588Getting hold of us and getting a price works the same way whatever the job is. What changes is the third part, which is the work itself. No deposit at any point, and you can stop after the price.
A photo and your address is plenty. No app and no account. A dispatcher replies with an arrival window, usually within minutes.
A crew arrives in your window, walks the job with you, and writes down one firm all-in price. Fifteen minutes, free, and you can say no.
We rake and load what is already down, cut branches to a length that will stack, and take the whole lot to a composting facility rather than a landfill. Bags, bins and the pile behind the shed all go in the same trip.

Properly handling organic debris goes far beyond cosmetic landscaping. Yard waste removal plays a crucial role in maintaining clean communities. Yard waste removal contributes to soil health and community sustainability. Yard waste management supports environmental sustainability efforts in communities. Note the practical version. You rake leaves off the lawn into a pile, we take the pile, and nothing sits behind the shed.
It goes to a composting facility, never a landfill. Composting helps prevent harmful methane emissions from landfilled organic waste. Composting reduces landfill waste by thousands of pounds annually. Composted yard waste enriches soil and supports plant growth. Composting can turn organic waste into Grade A topsoil. Those are the many benefits Ontario recognises when it grades compost Category AA, A or B, the top two usable anywhere. Well-managed composting systems significantly control issues such as odours and pathogens.
Improperly managed yard waste can attract pests, creating health risks. Regular yard waste management prevents conditions conducive to vector-borne diseases. Large volumes of decomposing organic matter can lead to water quality issues. Regular removal of yard waste can lower fire risks and improve public safety. Nor is a match, and neither is a heap of leaf litter or fallen fruit left to rot. Burning yard waste releases harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
More than most people guess. Yard waste typically makes up over 13% of the total municipal solid waste stream in North America. Yard waste is a significant source of organic waste in municipal solid waste. The US EPA puts yard trimmings at 13.2% of household generation, which is why nearly every city collects it separately.
Effective yard waste removal methods include curbside pickup and backyard composting. Seeking local municipal guidelines is essential for effective yard waste disposal. In Ottawa that means paper yard waste bags or a container labelled Leaf and Yard Waste, accepted weekly with no quantity limit. Every city in Canada writes its own version. A roll-off bin is the fourth option and overkill for most yards, so we dispose of what those rules will not.
Brown paper bags, never plastic, not even the compostable kind. Branches stay under 7 centimetres in diameter, bundles under 120 centimetres by 60, tied with natural twine. Tree stumps, wood, boxes and food scraps are all refused. Bundles of branches must be under 4 feet long. Residents can set out unlimited bags for collection. Paper bags do not count toward the three-item household garbage limit, whatever they weigh. There is no limit to the number of yard waste bags. OmniJunk takes what falls outside those rules, stumps included.
No, and people bring the old rules when they move. Yard waste is collected twice in spring and fall. Collection occurs on select Mondays in Edmonton. Yard waste must be set out by 7:00 am on collection day. In Wellington, collection can occur any time during the week. Set out yard waste by 7am on collection day. Ottawa runs a weekly collection week instead, and we drop in on whatever day is convenient.
Every time. Use double-ply paper bags or see-through plastic bags. Bundles must be smaller than 1 metre long and 0.5 metres in diameter. Each bag must not exceed 18.2 kg (40 lb) in weight. That is Edmonton. Use 30-gallon paper bags for yard waste pickup. Branches longer than 92 cm (3 ft) will not be collected. Each yard waste bag must not exceed 18.2 kg (40 lb). That is Wellington County, not Ottawa, which refuses plastic outright.
