LED strip light installation
Measure the space. Wipe that surface with a clean cloth. The step by step is that short. One strip covers a cabinet. The first section sets the rest of the run. For example, a corner takes two small sections.
Old fixtures leave on our truck in Ottawa, Ontario. A light strip on the wiring, and a hardwired fixture, are done by an ECRA/ESA-licensed electrical contractor. On the Quebec side that work is a Quebec-licensed electrician. Plug-in holiday hangs are the crew, up before the season and down in January.
Measure the space. Wipe that surface with a clean cloth. The step by step is that short. One strip covers a cabinet. The first section sets the rest of the run. For example, a corner takes two small sections.
Peel the adhesive backing. Stick it down and firmly press. The pressure has to hold on smooth surfaces. Textured surfaces get mounting clips. Stay on the designated cut lines so you avoid damaging the chips. Connect the next piece with clip on connectors. A 90-degree turn uses solderless 4-pin connectors. An aluminum channel takes the heat off the LEDs.
Under cabinet lighting is the counter run. Bias lighting sits behind a screen. General light, task light, and accent light on the wall share the room. The right LED strip lights are the ones whose lumens measure the brightness. Watts are the draw. Warm white sits near 2700K. Colour temperature is read in kelvins, and tunable white runs to 6500K. Single color stays one tone. Red green blue, RGB with white, and RGB with tunable white change colour. Indoor reels are under IP64. Outdoor reels are IP64 and above. Water needs IP67. More light means more LEDs per foot, in 2835, 3528 and 5050 chips. Check the colour rendering index where colour has to look true. An LED light draws less than the lamp it replaces. The dimmer is the control on the switch, and it has to suit LEDs.
Check positive against negative before the reel is powered. The breaker is off first, so nobody holds a live wire. Ceiling lights over insulated framing need an IC-rated airtight housing, with clearance and a path for heat. Test before anything is permanent. A new circuit is its own line on the price.
A power supply has to match the reel, 12V or 24V. A 12V reel runs about 16.4 feet. A 24V reel can run 32.8 feet or more. Past that, voltage drop dims the far end. Add about 20 percent to the total wattage for enough power, then buy at a wattage higher than that figure. Power requirements are voltage and draw. Power consumption is watts per foot times length. Mains power stops at the supply, on a power outlet. An extension cord only reaches the plug. The power source for every extra run is that supply. Larger installations go to the licensed contractor. Online retailers sell reels past a safe run. A mismatched supply flickers. Wires land on the marked pads.
The figure written at your door is the figure you pay.
Three jobs, priced on one visit. The crew hauls. A licensed contractor wires. The holiday hang plugs in.
A crew can carry a chandelier. A crew does not open a live conductor. A Gatineau address takes a Quebec licence.
Send one photo and we will tell you which job it is.
Text photos to (343) 314-7588Getting hold of us and getting a price works the same way whatever the job is. What changes is the third part, which is the work itself. No deposit at any point, and you can stop after the price.
A photo of the fixture, the cabinet or the roofline, and your address is plenty. No app and no account.
We walk it with you and write one firm price. Haul-away, the licensed wiring and the holiday hang are separate items, so you can buy one of them. Free, and you can say no.
Say yes and the crew can usually start the haul the same visit. The holiday hang gets a date before November and comes down in January. Anything on the wiring waits for the licensed electrical contractor, and that visit is its own line on the price.
“Amazing service! The team was efficient and professional. Would highly recommend for anyone needing junk removal.”
Lighting Installation and Removal Ottawa is one of 13 things we do, and most jobs turn out to be more than one. People booking this often also need kitchens, bathrooms, basements and everything behind the walls or prepped properly, so it still looks right in five years. One crew covers both in a single visit, on one price.

Yes. Recessed fixtures, a swap, a dimmer and outdoor fixtures on the wiring are done by an ECRA/ESA-licensed electrical contractor, who files the notification when one is needed. A lamp you already own is a bulb swap. A whole kitchen of recessed fixtures is quoted with the renovation.
In Ontario, new cable and new recessed fixtures need an Electrical Safety Authority notification, filed by the contractor doing the work. Swapping a bulb does not. We will not walk you through the wiring. If it is already down, we carry it out. If it is still connected, the electrician disconnects it first.
They stay out of the regular garbage. The City of Ottawa points residents to a Take It Back retailer through Waste Explorer, or to a household hazardous-waste event. Those events take bulbs and tubes. We keep tubes and CFLs out of the bagged garbage.
Yes, the plug-in kind, on the roofline, windows, railings, trees and porch. We design it, hang it, check it once, take it down in January, and store it if you want that. Book before November. You stay off the ladder. The job needs no wiring permit. The hazardous-waste list takes bulbs and tubes and leaves the strings in storage.
One firm price, written at your door, before anything starts. Haul-away, the licensed wiring and the holiday hang are separate items. Access above the fixture and drywall patching each get their own figure. No deposit, and you can say no. The figure at the door is the figure you pay.
Yes, both sides of the river. Haul-away and the plug-in holiday hang are the same crew. Permanent wiring on the Quebec side is a Quebec-licensed electrician. A house in Gatineau takes that Quebec licence. Send the address with the photo and we will say which trade is on the visit, before anyone is booked.
Yes, from any floor, once it is disconnected. Chandeliers, pendants, lamps, recessed trim and fluorescent banks all go. We protect the floors on the way out and sweep up. If it is still connected, the electrician disconnects it first. A working piece is offered back before it goes on the truck.
